Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get referred?

Just call to book an appointment. You don't need a doctor's letter. This saves you a lot of time. A referral from your doctor or consultant may be necessary however at the request of some Insurance companies. Family members, carers, other medical professionals, case managers and solicitors can also refer you.

Will my Insurance pay?

You need to find out from your Insurance before booking an appointment. If they agree to pay, they will need to e-mail or write to us to confirm payment terms and details and you may be given an authorisation code. We will then invoice them directly, so that you are free to concentrate on getting better.

Do I have to pay upfront for a course of treatment?

Not at all. If you are self paying you only pay for each session you attend, not for a course. This is only fair, since you may not attend the full course, as you may get better way before the course has finished.

Some Insurance companies may choose to pay in advance for a course of treatment. This ensures the smooth running of your treatment plan without having to interrupt your treatment because of funding issues.

How many treatments will I need?

The estimated number of sessions will be established when you attend for your assessment. This will vary according to how severe your pain is, how long you have had it and how complex your condition is. If it's a very recent problem, it may just need a few sessions or sometimes only one session. If it is a longstanding situation, it may take longer to resolve. We can also teach you how to self manage your situation; this will help reduce the number of further sessions significantly.

How do I know if my condition is suitable for Physiotherapy?

Call the Wembley Physiotherapy Service for free advice about your situation. We are happy to discuss your issues and to advise you how to best proceed. We will also help you with enquiries on behalf of someone else, such as a friend or family member. Advice is given without obligation to book an appointment. Sometimes a case can even be resolved just by talking it through on the telephone. That's fine, too. We are glad to help.

I have had my pain for a long time. Can Physiotherapy still help me?

In our experience there is usually something that can be done to improve matters. We frequently manage to improve or resolve longstanding pain, even when treatment elsewhere has failed. We can tell you immediately following an assessment if your pain would respond to treatment or if you need to be referred to explore different options.

Will I have to do anything specific between treatments?

To achieve the best possible treatment outcome, teamwork between the Physiotherapist and the Patient is absolutely essential. We therefore may have to give you some "homework" to follow between sessions to maintain your progress. This will take a few minutes out of your day. Being actively involved in your recovery really gets results.

I have difficulties using the stairs. Can I still come to your Practice?

You certainly can. There are no stairs to climb, neither at the entrance to the Practice nor to access the treatment room or waiting area. This means easy access also if you have to bring a buggy.

Can I bring someone with me?

Of course. You may need a translator, or you may want a bit of moral support, or you may need to bring children with you, whatever the reason, patient's escorts are always welcome. Your escorts may also join your session if you are happy for them to do so.

What should I wear?

So long as there is access to the injured body part you can wear whatever is practical for you, be that work clothes, leisure clothes or even sports attire.
